We are seeing a gentle shift in color preferences among homeowners in the DC Metro Area who are renovating their kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces in their homes. Neutral color schemes that include various shades of white, beige, and gray remain extremely popular due to their clean, timeless, and versatile palette that allows homeowners to incorporate pops of color to create unique and personal design statements.

However, we are seeing a definite movement away from the all-white kitchen. And if you plan to sell your home in the near future, it may be best to stay away from all white. A Real Simple survey of 4,700 recent and prospective homebuyers found that homes with dark gray interior paint colors received higher offer prices than homes painted all white. The survey also found that painted bathrooms with earth tones and front doors that are black or rosy brown also helped to increase sale prices.

In a surprising turn, hot pink is hot right now. Is this a reflection of the highly anticipated Barbie movie? Or a shift in interest towards maximalist styles? Either way, it is definitely a movement away from more muted shades. Homeowners that are attracted to maximalist styles tend to gravitate toward an eclectic mix of patterns, colors, textures, and objects that produce a rich and vibrant space.
