A Rainbow of Colors
While neutrals remain a classic staple will bold color become the new trend?

We are seeing a gentle shift in color preferences among homeowners in the DC Metro Area who are renovating their kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces in their homes. Neutral color schemes that include various shades of white, beige, and gray remain extremely popular due to their clean, timeless, and versatile palette that allows homeowners to incorporate pops of color to create unique and personal design statements.
However, we are seeing a definite movement away from the all-white kitchen. And if you plan to sell your home in the near future, it may be best to stay away from all white. A Real Simple survey of 4,700 recent and prospective homebuyers found that homes with dark gray interior paint colors received higher offer prices than homes painted all white. The survey also found that painted bathrooms with earth tones and front doors that are black or rosy brown also helped to increase sale prices.
In a surprising turn, hot pink is hot right now. Is this a reflection of the highly anticipated Barbie movie? Or a shift in interest towards maximalist styles? Either way, it is definitely a movement away from more muted shades. Homeowners that are attracted to maximalist styles tend to gravitate toward an eclectic mix of patterns, colors, textures, and objects that produce a rich and vibrant space. Maximalist styles allow homeowners to make a creative and individual design statement that is both fun and exciting!
Hot pink is only one of the bold colors that is trending for kitchens and baths. Bold colors are being specified as accent colors that include dark blues, rich greens, and vibrant reds that add a visual contrast to more neutral background colors. Additionally, two-tone contrasts are another hot trend right now because they create visually interesting and dynamic focal points in the home. Recent examples of two-tone palettes include kitchens that feature white upper cabinets with dark countertops or islands. Combining light and dark colors adds depth to a space and a visual appeal to a kitchen or bath.
We have seen a growing interest among homeowners in using different shades of a single color to add harmony and sophistication to their new space. Examples may include various shades of gray, blue, or green to add depth to the space.
