Why Quartz Is King
Quartz is having its moment... but why is that you might ask?

There are a number of reasons why quartz has quickly become the number one countertop material selected by homeowners in the DC Metro Area and throughout the U.S. Quartz is made from engineered stone and is comparable in appearance to granite and marble. However, unlike granite and marble, it is not porous and is far more resistant to staining. These properties makes Quartz easy to maintain and clean. Additionally, there are an almost limitless number of colors, patterns and finishes available. Quartz can even incorporate veining in captivating patterns to mimic marble and natural stone. Your typical quartz slabs are the same thickness as granite coming in at 3cm. Unlike granite, quartz is heavier and stronger, allowing for larger tops and longer overhangs. Plus, its durability means that it won’t chip or crack as easily as other surfaces.
Additionally, quartz has a number of different finish options available that contribute to its increasing popularity. Quartz finishes have a depth that solid surface materials such as Corian can match.
Quartz’ nonporous surface not only makes the countertops easier to clean, it also makes it bacteria and virus resistant. A good technique to keep quartz countertops clean and looking like new is to wipe them using dish soap, warm water, nonabrasive glass cleaner, and a microfiber cloth. Homeowners that encounter tougher stains on the quartz countertops are encouraged to use a surface cleaner and nonabrasive sponge. Stubborn build ups can be removed by combining rubbing alcohol with water. This method allows you to remove stains without resorting to abrasive cleaners that could harm your countertops.
In addition to being nonporous, quartz countertops don't need to be resealed unlike other natural stone choices. Buffing quartz with a soft cloth is all that is typically needed to create an extra shiny finish.
